Allowing that I haven't verified the results, I never thought they made sense at all. They were just accidentally allowed.

+1 - the only reason to allow them IMO is for discovery services that are incapable of prefetching them. Also, I don’t really care about this problem that much, because it forces people to move to MDQ, and I am just about to start harping on InCommon participants to move to MDQ.

We are shutting down our old metadata service on March 1, 2021. We’ll still offer aggregates (regular and IdP-only) in the new service as required by the MDQ protocol, but we should probably start thinking of how to sunset that requirement at some point, or transition it to simply a list of entityIDs.
