Indeed I am the SP in this case and I want to point IdPs who end up at
my documentation on how to connect to my service. I agree it is most
logical to point to local documentation & contacts, not directly to
metadata. However, currently I have little more then the ability to
point them to " toplevel" edugain which is way to generic and not
providing pointers to local federations either.

Perhaps eduGAIN should maintain a list similar to the technical status
page but then facing towards IdPs/SPs to handle the redirection to the
local federation?
Perhaps even with a direct pointer to support pages. At SURFnet we
have this: https://support.surfconext.nl/edugain, I suspect many
federations have similar stuff. Basically I would like a list of all
these support pages I guess.
