From my own experience, a six-year old device will have worn-out
batteries, and exchanging them is more expensive than the net worth of
the device -> time for the trash bin.

And if we're talking stationary Macs... well... use an ethernet cable.

(If anyone has a really cheap battery for my first-gen MacBook Air,
please contact me off-list ;-) )

Maybe. They are a fraction of the already small fraction of people still
using 10.6 at all. I would argue that this two-digit number ;-) is not
enough to care about :-)
