Sure. My original point was merely that we decide which form makes most sense and be unambiguous :)  I was merely explaining why we use the form we do.

I'm happy to do the maths for my users if the decision is to use the encoded form, and publish a sensible user-understandable limit. Because my experience with email attachments is that even relatively tech savy users don't understand that a 5MB attachment limit means you can only attach a 3.5MB file, and that generates support calls...


Been there and it is a pain.

Let me try to summarize the current discussion and see if there is enough consensus to establish a simple recommendation about inline logo sizes to be added to the eduGAIN BCP and on which we can issue specific warns in the validator.

Two basic needs emerged quite clearly:

* the need to calculate the size of the inline logos on the value of the <Logo> tag (Ian).
* the need to keep it simple at the edge (Guy, myself).

IMO Stefan's proposal seems good enough to take both into account.
