Hello Lukas,
I am not responsible for the geteduroam app whatsoever, so I won't talk about bugs, updates and so on, but I wanted to share my experience working in customer support.
Personally, I like the geteduroam app. It is cleaner and the process is straightforward. As of now we didn't even run into any problems with Android versions of 10 and upwards. Sometimes we also recommend it to iOS users, because the device isn't asking for any credentials (or it takes like 5 - 10 minutes for the popup). Most users now also read the error messages if any come up. For example the one where it says that there is already an existing profile. Some know what to do, others don't, but they tell us this is where they are stuck. In eduroam CAT the users just clicked through the dialogues and didn't know what went wrong and just say: It is not working. Maybe this is user specific but in the eduroam CAT app it was a somewhat annoying pop up error message while in geteduroam it is a simple information screen.
As I already said, we didn't run into any problems in day to day work. Maybe there are problems or bugs we didn't encounter. But overall I don't understand why you would call the app a mess. Useability wise, atleast for us, it isn't.
Yours sincerely,
Dennis Tants

Hi,
so, now that students are slowly coming back to campus eduroam comes back into use. And so does the Problem with newer Android devices come up again.
eduroam CAT stops working on some newer Devices and 'geteduroam' is a mess...
I was still very hesitant to even mention the App in our Knowledge Base even with a warning "for experienced users only" because frankly I myself do not want to use it either.
I know that a lot of the "messiness" of the App has its Root with Google but for me the even bigger Problem is communication.
Everything is guesswork to me and trial and error. We get sometimes a tiny notification on a side note like last time with the transition to it on cat.eduroam.org
We had this discussion already as it came up the first time and I do not feel that communication has become better. Hell, a question of mine has been ignored two times because it seems nobody except Paul Dekkers knew what was going on with geteduroam. And because the CAT-Team decided they want to go this route for CAT he shouldn't be..
So again: what about the Bugs / the Release of the now Beta Version with fixes? What is going on with the Suggestion API vs 'normal' Networks? What about Android 10? What are the projections and timelines for the Future, what can we expect to work (or become working) or not work. Is there an attempt to use 'geteduroam' for other OSes in production?
Because all I can respond to users asking 'when will it work' - "Sorry, I don't know" (And "Who knows it then?" - "Nobody")
**Or am just I the only one not knowing there is another list I could Subscribe or a Newsfeed somewhere?**
Greetings, Lukas
