The interface is exactly the same, also for iOS.

When I just tried it, I noticed that the on-screen keyboard pops up
automatically and hides the text box for searching. Maybe that is what
you meant?

for me it's the opposite the keyboard does not pop up so I cannot search manually,
I dont know if it possible to force the keyboard to open in Safari? 

(Iphone 5c , IOS 10.3.3)
