I guess it's a question of taste to consider this a good compromise or
not. I don't, but I'm not a dictator as well :-)

The list would look necessarily "funny" right now:

1) Planet Earth except Germany
2) Germany

(and maybe 3) TEST as per your excellent comment below)

Yes; the question is if such a layer makes sense.

Also, keep in mind that such a "hack" will only do some good for this
specific Android app case (and even there only partially). When it comes
to user diagnostics another hack would need to be added, and so on. This
is not proper design!

Anyway: if someone is interested in providing code for this, patches are
welcome. The Android app is Apache 2 licensed.

[Probably for everything but the "automatic selection" - I don't think
this can be made to work reliably]
