I have had a local discussion here and another argument popped up -
security and trust. With a local federation site like that of yours,
you should really explain to your users why you are distributing
installers which are signed by some obscure GEANT org and why they
should trust it. In the other direction, I would not want to have
Polish users go to a "random" Norwegian site and pick up an
installer for their Polish university, just as you would probably
not like the reverse. However now think of a guest from Poland who
visits a Norwegian university and only then realises that eduroam
would be useful. Local colleagues will most likely send him to the
Norwegian eduroam site where he will not find his Polish institution
and will need to be sent to the Polish site or the central one. The more I think about it the more I am convinced that multiple installations are wrong for eduroam and we should avoid them. You could then ask why did I create the UserAPI then. Well, mainly to allow for creation of new ways of interfacing, take the Android eduroamCAT as an example or creating per institution links directly to CAT downloads. Of course we cannot forbid anything, but we might want to start a larger discussion on a general list not really about the looks of the interface, but about the principles. I agree that eduroam.no/connect
is missing some functionality that is available in CAT. We’ve
started with functionality we think is important for our
(Norwegian) end-users, but decided not to limit the website to
Norway in case someone else thinks the website is useful. The
current design is based on the official uninett style [1], so if
we’re to take this international, a redesign must be done
anyway.
Maybe we should have a meeting? There’s probably too
much to discuss for eduroam SG, so I think a separate meeting
might be a good idea.
I’ll discuss this in more detail tomorrow with Tom.

Would it be possible for Eduroam.orf/Géant/the CAT-administrators use this design in case they are interested? A quick question: is it possible to link to it using an anchor tag, so that it opens with a list of Swedish institutions. Something like https://eduroam.no/connect/#Sweden? Or even better, but probably too much to ask: https://eduroam.no/connect/#MyInstitute so that a certain Institute is preselected. You
can check out https://eduroam.no/connect/
Just
a different end-user interface intended for Norway,
but you will find all profiles there.
Admins
must use cat.eduroam.org

Hi Stefan!
CAT is very useful
for us, but the design/user interface of the
CAT
pages could use some improvement, especially
the mobile version of the
site. Are there plans to improve the web
design/User Interface?Unfortunately I am not a design guru either. :) Just an idea, isn't there an institution out there that has courses in (web)design and that has some students that could redesign the site as a study case/project? I just registered myself at the Transiflex site in order to help with translations (Swedish and Dutch). //Jasper -----Ursprungligt meddelande----- Från: Stefan Winter [mailto:stefan.winter AT restena.lu] Skickat: den 26 oktober 2015 14:10 Till: Metselaar Jasper; cat-users AT geant.net Ämne: Re: [cat-users] CAT website design and Swedish translation? Hello, Our current developer base is more on the technical level, not design gurus :-) Of course we also realise that UI improvements are possible. This basically needs a UI-savvy volunteer to help out. Please let us know if you are able to contribute (HTML/_javascript_/...) code... Secondly we are wondering if there are any plans to add a Swedish translation of the CAT tool. There is currently a partial Swedish translation on our translation system (49% completion, most of the end-user visible parts are done). Due to its sub-optimal completion level, it was not included in any release yet. Again, we need Swedish native speaker volunteers to complete the translation work. Translation can be done on a web interface of the company "Transifex" (https://www.transifex.com/eduroam_devel/cat/language/sv/ ). Again, please do let us know if you want to volunteer for the translation.
