according to latest frederic's developments, it works in containerlab....

maybe needs some more fine-tuning to get accepted officially...

frederic, an url for the project please, and a quick update on the progress?
:)

until that, also from frederic, an other container image:
https://github.com/rare-freertr/freeRtr-debian

0 stars, last update in 2020, imho deal, but would not be too hard to take
over the repo????

if frederic finally deletes that repo then my personal archive of the same:
https://github.com/rare-freertr/freeRtr/tree/master/misc/docker

53 stars, last updated 2022 july, but still unrecommmended by me.... :))))))

my personal favorite is http://portable.nop.hu/

currently under my first domain because not yet official, however i
officially link it from http://sandbox.freertr.org/

so once again, it's just a trial, but imho this would be the best for your
students...

currently you'll find here is a native linux binary that runs dn42 in your
terminal without a jvm...

it's a graalvm.org native-image so i can produce you an arbitrary native
image that clang can compile to.....

but because as it's a statically linked native linux binary, way more bytes
to download when you update it....

and most importantly, it's not a jvm so no real-time core-reoptimization to
fine-tune the cpu caches.......

once we decide that it could be an official project then imho i'll set up a
new dns like dn42portable.freertr.org????

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ everybody a +1 or a -1??? please write a reply-all to see
the votes....

thx,

cs

Hi all,

We are letting the students to configure the freeRtr environment in a virtualbox VM by following this tutorial: http://docs.freertr.org/guides/getting-started/001-hello-world/ <http://docs.freertr.org/guides/getting-started/001-hello-world/>

When students completed the configuration and reboot the system, somehow they were redirected to a terminal rather than the desktop GUI interface. In this terminal, the network interface only has eth0 without any IP address configured. Is this an expected configuration to run a freeRtr?

If this is an expected result for freeRtr installation after reboot, then how to configure a network topology with multiple freeRtrs as previously we thought freeRtr could work together with the P4 bmv2 switches in mininet in VM? (if we understand correctly )

Do you have any suggestions for the installation/configuration? Many thanks
for your help!

Best Regards,

Ming
