Hi all,

On 23/09/2019 22:12, Tomasz Wolniewicz wrote:
Looks like we have located the reason for this entity passing the
eduGAIN checks and the question is was the empty lang actually an error.

If you look at https://www.w3.org/2001/xml.xsd you will see that they
actually allow the empty value for lang. UK federation rules rely on
http://www.w3.org/2001/03/xml.xsd and this one forbids empty values but
all newer ones allow that.

eduGAIN validator was using a newer xml.xsd and the validation passed.

So what is the correct approach here?

Thank you Tomasz for doing the post mortem. I just wanted to add that the Hungarian Federation also did schema validate its feed, but with the new XML schema (referred from http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema).

+1 for adding _additional_ sanity checks on the feeds, but I think it's a bug if software don't update the schema definitions what they refer to. If the bug is as widely deployed as the current one, such workarounds at the aggregator are preferable, but let's not go for fixing outdated schema versions, please.

Kristof
