Hi Niels,
   eduGAIN has a lot of details which cannot be expressed as DTD, this is why we have the eduGAIN validator. The validator can be run as a service, Maja can supply additional details.

As far as xmllint is concerned, I believe Leif has an eduGAIN schema for testing.
