Dear eduGAIN,

Four European research infrastructures and projects have signed a letter to endorse the Data protection Code of Conduct:

- the CLARIN research infrastructure for humanities and social sciences

- the DARIAH ESFRI for arts and humanities research

- the DASISH project

- the ELIXIR research infrastructure for life science data

The letter is addressed to the CIOs of the European universities:

“As the leaders of major European ESFRI research infrastructures, we encourage universities and

research   institutions   to   consider   adopting   the   Data   protection   Code   of   Conduct   in   the

management of their Identity Provider server. Adopting the Code of Conduct makes the work of

researchers easier, reduces uncertainty and overheads for Identity Provider administrators, and

could potentially increase your organisation’s scientific output.”

The letter can now be used for convincing the Home Organisations to release attributes to the CoCo-committed SPs. Here the national federations’ help to approach the Home Organisations is needed because

- some of the practicalities, such as any metadata management or opt-in procedures, are federation specific and the letter can be accompanied with localized technical instructions

- federations, unlike the SP communities (research infrastructures) have direct contacts to the Home Organisations (for instance, I just booked a speak to the Finnish universities’ CIO meeting)

The endorsement letter (pdf) with the signatures is available in

https://wiki.edugain.org/CoCoEndorsement

The Data protection Code of Conduct cookbook with recipes for Home Organisations and Federation Operators is available in

https://wiki.edugain.org/Data_Protection_Code_of_Conduct_Cookbook

Currently 27 eduGAIN SPs have committed to the Code of Conduct.

Cheers,

mikael
