Several alternatives are mentioned:

* write a little XSLT transform to put whatever you want into the attribute.  You can use this to plug in a constant value, or something more complex like a timestamp (I have some Xalan extensions that help with that).

* use the GenerateIdStage; if you do this, you'll need to pick up a snapshot release

I'm going to be pretty busy over the next couple of days, I'm afraid, but let me know off-list if you still have problems at the end of the week and we can dig into it more deeply.
