I'm sure it will with the current code only work on WiFi. Now I did a few
small tests; I noticed that at least for Android 14 there are no Ethernet
settings when I plug in a USB-C Ethernet dongle. (Are you aware of any?)
No, no real support on any contemporary device I know of.
(Last supported one ASUS transformer of 2012?). But I saw mentioned wired
network in
some recent review, I think it was about Android 14.
https://www.pcmag.com/how-to/connect-phone-tablet-to-internet-ethernet-cable
and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5kYH32RSgg
both suggest some Android versions will at least issue a DHCP request.
an configure a simple environment. The same goes for iPadOS.
But I have vever seen 802.1X working with wired, neither on Android nor
iPadOS.
Technically, it should be entirely feasible.

For ChromeOS that's different; I noticed 802.1x settings, but no API to
configure this from the App.
Is it still in the Specs for ONC?
About 14 years ago, I once managed to connect a ChromeBook to wired eduroam.
Since then, I have never seen a ChromeBook honouring wired settings in the
ONC profile again.
Lukas is completely right: For a long time, Google ignored the dire need of a
proper certificate check
almost completely. A whole generation of ChromeBooks simply ignored all cert
settings in ONC.
I reorted this twice on the ChromeOS feedback page, nobody cares.
So guess geteduroam on ChromeOS is a good idea.

Good luck with Google
