Hi,

Yes, you are right, this property should be read as "also wired". On Windows, if an installer does not see any wireless devices, normally it will report that and exit. However if wired is also configured it will suggest doing that. Also the wired option for Windows causes an extra question to the user.

One last remark - configuring the wired network on Windows needs to be done for the entire machine nut just this particular system user, therefore such an installer will require admin rights on the local system.

Linux installers disregard this option altogether. Contrary to the Windows case, setting 802.1x authentication on Linux made it *required*. Since the wired network does not identify itself, like and SSID for wireless, such a *required* mode would disable the chance to connect to standard wired networks that do not ask for authentication and also any other 802.1x network would just the same eduroam credentials. All this means that for general use cases 802.1x on wired may be less useful than it would seem on the first glance.

Cheers

Hi,

Am I right in thinking that the “Configure Wired Ethernet” Media Property for a CAT profile is not exclusive – i.e. the profile would be for both eduroam and wired access, not just wired access alone when installed on a device?

I’m asking as I’m currently reviewing a profile configuration and whilst the anonymous outer ID is less relevant for local wired access, if the configuration includes Wi-Fi being set up on the device as well, then it is probably best to ensure it is set regardless of access media in case the device is a laptop that could roam via Wi-Fi as well as connect via wired Ethernet – or is that more likely to cause strange issues with the wired connectivity?

Many thanks
