Hi,

can we be specific about what we are talking about? Please lets limit ourselves to the Windows case - this is why I have changed the subject

One thread is the geteduroam Windows application, which if I understand correctly does not yet support wired eduroam

The second is the standard CAT Windows installer. By default this installer does not tough wired interfaced, but as the IdP admin you can set support for wired in the media properties of the profile. The installer will then require admin right to run. It will install eduroam n wireless interfaces and will ask the user if he/she wants wired support as well. If no wireless interface is present the installer will report it and ask if the user wants the wired interface instead. So, unless the installed profile does not work as expected, I do nor see any missing stuff or bugs here.

I have checked that the installer for University of Trieste does have the wired support on. Are you saying that it does not work? I have not tested this for quite a while, so something may have gone wrong.

Cheers

Tomasz

We (University of Trieste) knew about this "bug"? I'd rather say not yet implemented feature.

Till now we worked around it by manual configuring devices without a wifi card/dongle.

This feature would be useful for PCs and MACs with only wired port since we already have and are planning to implement wired 802.1x even wider in our campus.

In some places we have "funny" people that disconnect fixed PCs to connect their laptop. We would like to correlate generated network traffic (if not for the abusive disconnect operation ;-D ).

Hello,

do you mean the Android App (which is legacy),
or  the website cat.eduroam.org?
The latter is up and alive and serves everyone well,
both web browsers and app clients.
If it's Android, please tell me what contemporary device
supports wired out of the box, I would be interested.
If it's Windows, there may indeed be a glitch in the Windows installer.

If anything, I'd say that this is a "bug" in the Windows installer that CAT generates.

If a profile contains Wi-Fi and wired, and the installer is used on a system that only has wired, the better behaviour would be to install wired, rather installing nothing.

This should even be easy to fix - the check for existence of a Wi-Fi interface could be run only if the profile doesn't also contain a wired payload. I guess. It's Tomasz's code :-)

Greetings,

Stefan Winter
