Entirely coincidentally, I have now visited a hotspot where I see
similar proxy-detection related problems.


So, a (hopefully) lucky shot: in your DHCP options, do you set a default
search domain which is NOT a domain in the global DNS?


Like, "search domain.internal" rather than "search dartmouth.edu"?


And if so, does setting a globally valid domain help?
