Hi, the "installing credentials for wired" is a message text error. The version that is now running on the production simply writes an incorrect message. What the system does in reality is installing the credentials for the wireless profile it created. Credential installation errors happen very rarely and are quite hard to reproduce. However even if the error appears, the correct wireless eduroam profile should already be present at your system and if you try to connect, the system should pop up a credentials request and then save the credentials itself. You might want to run the installer form a terminal adding -DEBUG=4 option. This will create a log file in the Documents folder. If you could send it to me, perhaps I could see something there. Hi
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly
No, the installer is not trying to turn on the 802.1x. The “Credentials installation problem” box appears towards the end of the installation when it tells you
Over the dialog box
So I was asking about why it is “installing credentials for wired” when this is not needed? I understand that if we wanted to install 802.1x for wired I would go to “Edit IdP-wide settings”, “Media Properties”, “Add new option”, “Configured Wired Ethernet” and check the box. If this box is unchecked the option for Configured Wired Ethernet would not appear.
If you can clarify this that would be great
Thanks

The normal CAT install does include 802.1X configuration because 802.1X is how eduroam works. So, the purpose of CAT is to configure 802.1X.
Are you seeing the installer try to turn on wired 802.1X when you don't have that setting enabled in the config page? (If you simply do not add the "enable" setting to the list, wired 802.1X should be disabled in your installer.)

There is a section of your document “A guide to eduroam CAT for institution administrators” that discusses Media Properties and their configuration, however, the bit that I am having difficulty with is “whether or not to configure wired ethernet for IEEE 802.1XSome eduroam participants also use IEEE 802.1X for wired ethernet ports in their premises, e.g. in dormitories. Administrators can specify that the installers should include wired ethernet eduroam configuration on the client devices. This is currently supported for the Windows installers and Apple OS X. Windows installers will provoke a UAC prompt when wired support is turned on.” We do not use 802.1x. I would appreciate you informing me how I can turn it off as the client install program seems to have this feature enabled by default. The only option that is available to me under Media Options is to “enable” it which starts Windows10 UAC as stated. Also, and of more concern is that an error (Credentials installation problem) pops up when it is trying to install credentials for wired. Or is this part of the normal install of the eduroam client?
Many thanks
