This typically means that the server certificate is not the expected
one. Reasons why this happen typically include:
* the server was reconfigured towards a new Certification Authority, but
the configuration of client devices rests with the old authority
* the server certificate has properties which make Apple fail validation
even though the certificate chain is technically correct
* someone unauthorised is trying to sniff out your login data

But since you also note that

... other OSes have no problem, this is a bit strange. Did you by any
chance upgrade OS X in those last days?

Anyway, this is a question where your local helpdesk can help you much
