If the problem is about the forgotten domain part, then it is a universal one, therefore our installers could pop an alert when the domain part is missing.

In principle it is quite possible in some cases, for users to provide just the username part, this is when the outer identity is configured by the installer, therefore the correct routing is taken care of, and the real user name without the domain part would be just fine. However, there are limitations to the above, for instance the specification of PEAP does not allow the inner identity to have a different realm then the outer identity, therefore the user of PEAP must provide the full identity including the realm.

Since this problem with PEAP is not likely to go away, we could just as well assume that the real part is always required, or we could add another admin option (or just a global config option for the whole CAT instance) like "enable missing real alerts". Such alerts would only work on installers that we control, but the same goes for any other form of additional interaction with the user.

If these alerts sound like a reasonable approach, then I think this could be implemented rather quickly.

Hello,

We are testing the CAT tool in our institution currently. The tool
itself is working nicely, but we are wondering if it could be possible
to display a custom text in the installers when users have to enter the
username and password. We know from experience that users tend to forget
to add the domain (@kuleuven.be). There is already the custom text we
can place beneath the download buttons on the download page, but we are
worried that most users will neglect to read this through.
That same fear has been reported earlier. There are only limited ways to
approach this problem, unfortunately. For example, on OS X and iOS,
there is only one opportunity for custom texts; it's in the "Terms &
Conditions" splash, if configured. Other custom username/password hints
are not possible.

On Windows and Linux, we have more control. I could imagine that for CAT
1.1, we can do two things:

1) make the current "username" and "password" strings configurable
(default stays as-is). This would be on the fine-tuning level; after all
the hints would probably differ per EAP type.

2) Provide a way for a customised "welcome screen" text, which would
then totally replace our default "Welcome to the eduroam installer" body
text. Any custom hints could then be implanted there.

So, for your users, you could then replace "username" with "username
with @kuleuven.be suffix" and "your regular student password" as an
extra hint (note that this super long string may do serious damage to
the UI display; not much we can do about that....) and/or also add
"remember to add the @kuleuven.be suffix when prompted for the password,
and use the password that you got from the secretariat on the second
floor earlier in the semester" in the splash. I wonder how many users
would read through *that* though.

So, my question to you is ... what do you want? :-) Option 1 and/or or
Option 2?

Greetings,

Stefan Winter
