lucky you... :) if we didn't had to server the intermediate schools then
Note that we really only use the MPLS dataplane for encapsulated L2
traffic, so the performance overhead is not an issue for us (the L2
users are all very low traffic compared to "normal" IP traffic).
it would be the same here but we run internet in a vrf for 3 year now to
be able to filter porn from the underaged ones....
The motivation is a general dislike of having connection management
throughout the core, and our lack of deep experience/skills with MPLS.
We mostly see MPLS as a complication that doesn't really buy us
anything, except that we are currently forced to use it for this single
(but very profitable) application - L2 services - which could easily be
implemented at the edges over an agnostic IP core, except our router
vendors used to only implement it efficiently over MPLS.
can i ask if you mean rsvp under the connection management?
if yess, then imho running sr (not sr-te) is what worth a try:
it's a single label index (plus the label base), binded to a /32, distributed
in the igp...
to have it mapped to the lfib, you populate all the labels starting from the
local label base up to the configured domain max...
once a box enters the sr domain, it advertises the /32 and the index... and
that's it, everybody in the domain knows everything
for the end2end.... no rsvp nor ldp is needed at all...
regarding the interop, freerouter uses random srgb by default, that is,
there is no cheating, and both cisco and junos interworks for years now,
so one can arbitrary mix anything in a given domain...
Another motivation is/was that we don't want to be locked into
MPLS-capable platforms for our core network, even though these days
that's not really a limiting factor anymore (unless you'd want to use
something like Cumulus in the core, but that option is unlikely to ever
become attractive again, unfortunately).
well, so if rare can do a thing nicely then it's being an mpls p surrounded
by anything doing the services...
it won't do you the black magic of the speed conversion but it's not the task
for a p afterall...
even you can use it as a backplane if you ran out of the pizzabox ports in a
pop....
