Hi,

This is me. Details:

  • Huawei RH1288V3 (dual xeon e5v3 6core 2.4ghz w/ HT disabled, vtD enabled)
  • VMware ESXi 6.5.0 Update 3 (Build 14320405) w/ cpu powersaving disabled
  • VM: 12core, 16G ram, intel x710 in pci-passthrough in Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS
  • Running this weeks freertr github version backed by dpdk librte*20 (default from repos)
  • Testing between two machines (ubuntu or debian), each connected to one of the x710 interfaces, w/ plenty of performance headroom, vanilla/no tweaks.
  • Intel i40e on a recent firmware version (updated yesterday)

screen /usr/bin/p4dpdk.bin --vdev=net_af_packet0,iface=veth0b -- 127.0.0.1 9080 4 1 2 3  2 4 5  -1 6 7 -1 8 9 -1 10 11

and I get indeed about 6.6gbps unidirection, 9gbps combined on bi-directional test. I think there's something still limiting my performance so I'm going to first assess performance without virtualization, bare-metal on this box and then come back to VMware.
