hi,

niceeee question, thanks! so let me dissect it into some distinct parts...

control plane:
freerouter is written in java, and i heavily test it on debian, and mixed
news here:
they abandoned ppc officially but they're still maintaining it as 'ports',
which is not
the official set of architectures... i have a powermac in my closet and i
turn it on
yearly to do a dist-upgrade on it and everything seems allright, even the
latest java
runs just fine on it... if this answer scares you, maybe other distributions
or other
unixes, bsds, etc, have better support for this archaic platform...

data plane:
on the link in the bottom of this mailing, they say it's a triend2 which is
not that bad! :)
but unfortunately we had only about 1 hour of development time on a similar
platform, and it
was just enough to do the simplest poc test that it can work! then we did the
development, i
tested it in a relevant (but not broadcom as they never gave us anything
unfortunately) emulator
and that works, but then never had the chance to test it on a real hardware
yet... :(
as we could not progressed, only the simplest feature works: basic routing in
a single vrf...
no bridging nor nat nor mpls nor anything fancy yet, just that vrf and the
routing protocols...
but once again, imho all the above are doable, but i was not able to continue
the development
because of the limitations of my emulated environment...

official rare images:
adding alex to the mailing, he's our master chef here... so does nix support
ppc?

thx,
cs

Do you think freertr can run on PowerPC?

Hi,

Right, I wasn't sure what was the issue exactly but indeed we weren't able to
use them ...

Maybe something has changes in the meanwhile?

Hi,

As far as I remember - the management module is based on PowerPC
processor. So I had a problem to find a NOS matching hardware and
processor type:

Hi,

as I told you in the telco ukasz let me know that we have 4 bare
metal switches in PSNC that do nothing so it's possible to use them
for GP4L.

Tomek, you emphasised that some management software is missing.
Anyway, please consider if it's reasonable to connect them to GP4L.

Best regards,
Roman
