hi,
so eth1 is down indicates to me that it got a link state notification from
the pcapint/rawint layer...
but still, the things to look for if they're stable:
- "sho proc ext" should indicate a low rerun count and a reasonable big ago
column for all the processes...
if it's the case, and as you're still on freerouter software forwarding, next
time i simply would check
the corresponding linux interfaces... first check the eth1 line's port numbers in
"flash type rtr-hw.txt"
here you'll find an "int eth1 xxx" line, and a corresponding "proc ifc1.sh
xxx" line... match them by the
unique port numbers after the 127.0.0.1... once you found the name of the
physical interface assigned to
freerouter's eth1, issue "attach shell2 ifconfig <linux-iface-name>" to see
the state and if those 8 packets
that freerouter is telling you sent in "sho int eth1" are really went out to
the physical interface... also
you should compare the received packets too, and take a look at the headers if
the interface is up&running...

Hi again,
About the difference between x86 and x64 installation,
I understood. It makes perfect sense.
Thank you for the explanation.
Taking advantage of the contact...
The eth1 interface is down. I am not able to access Lanner via SSH.
Doing the full install on the VM this never happened. Are there any steps I
might have skipped?

anyway, you can change the freerouter behavior in the generated
/rtr/hwdet-lin1.sh...

for sure you can, but keep in mind that i lost long ago my last i686
machine,
so for now, freertr.org <http://freertr.org> only hosts thebuilt
rtr-arch.tar files for amd64 and arm64...
in other words, for any other architecture, you have to compile them
yourself,
moreover, every time they change, you have to recompile them to have the
fixes,
speedups, etc in place... anyway, compiling the binaries is not too
difficult:
wget freertr.org/rtr.zip <http://freertr.org/rtr.zip>
cd misc/native
./c.sh
but there is an other thing to note, dpdk imho only available for 64 bit,
i7+ grade cpus:
https://github.com/rare-freertr/freeRtr/blob/7f184fd66213b8cc4db124e9872d8c48b34f3ea1/misc/native/c.sh#L49
<https://github.com/rare-freertr/freeRtr/blob/7f184fd66213b8cc4db124e9872d8c48b34f3ea1/misc/native/c.sh#L49>
without that -march=corei7 knob it simply fails to compile the dpdk
headers....
anyway, the same functionality could be achieved with the libpcap packetio
(p4emu vs p4dpdk) but obviously just a portion of the speed because every
packet
will bounce between kernel-user-kernel to have them forwarded in the
dataplane..
