Dear All,

This is a reminder about the forthcoming eduGAIN Federations Operators training:

The next training event, aimed at providing skills and know-how to new Federation Operators (FedOps) -  from the community of NRENs and Identity Federations -  is planned from March 30 to April 3, 2026, in Paris, kindly hosted by RENATER, in France, at the GIP RENATER HQ in  23-25, rue Daviel - 75013 Paris.

We still have some places available.   If you're interested, please apply for participation on https://events.geant.org/event/2059/

The goal of the training is to introduce new federation operators and new staff members of identity federations to the general concepts, the protocols, the tools and best practices around the management of Identity federations, their metadata, the community members, and eduGAIN as the worldwide inter-federation service for Single Sign-On.

New staff members who recently joined an Identity federation, or prospective federation team members that are planning to act as FedOps are very welcome to attend this event.

We aim at gathering around 25 students; we will provide them with lectures on the above mentioned topics, and they will be involved in hands-on exercises where they will have to deploy their own Identity providers, service providers, discovery services, create their own federation metadata, sign them and manage the federation metadata.

Participation is free of charge;  Travel and hosting expenses will have to be covered by the participants at their own expense.

The main topics covered are:

  1. Introduction to Federated Identity management and Single Sign-On
  2. Introduction to the SAML2 protocol
  3. eduGAIN Technical aspects and related tools and services
  4. The GÉANT T&I services
  5. The Shibboleth Identity Provider and Service Provider
  6. Discovery Services
  7. Metadata signing and distribution
  8. Community Support and Best Practices

Pre-requirements to successfully make use of the course:
  1. Basics of Linux system administration  (required)
  2. Familiarity with managing web servers and digital certificates (useful)
