Hi,

Bear in mind that recent Android versions automatically configure an anonymous outer identity, named "anonymous": you need to change this to something valid in your realm (your realm may or may not accept anonymous outer authentications, depending on the RADIUS configuration). But the RADIUS server would be the place to confirm this. It may also be related to TLS versions available on your RADIUS server.

I guess this list/community is about using CAT and geteduroam for the configuration, and I do think this may resolve your issues indeed if it's not encryption settings but some misconfiguration (as for one, it's difficult for users to understand what options they need to configure exactly). We can't help you with that, but indeed your NRO has the option to do so,

Regards,
Paul

Dear Paul,

Thank you for your response.

We would like to clarify the issue we are facing. On Google Pixel devices running Android 15 and 16, connecting to eduroam consistently fails with the error: “Authentication error.”

Our standard Android configuration (which works fine on other Android devices) is as follows:

  • Domain Name: luawms.edu.pk

  • CA Certificate: Use system certificate / Do not validate

  • Identity & Password: Correct and verified (working on other devices)

However, with Pixel devices (Android 15 and 16):

  • The connection fails each time with “Authentication error.”

  • We attempted using the geteduroam app, but unfortunately LUAWMS is not listed in the app. We hope the PERN team, as our NRO, can assist with the onboarding for this.

  • We also tried manual installation of the certificate and opening it via the geteduroam app, but the result was the same.

  • We have already tested all available certificate options (Trust on first use, system default, and manual selection), but none of them worked.

  • Other non-Pixel Android devices connect successfully with the same configuration and credentials.

Here is the snapshot of the settings we normally use for Android devices  for your reference.

Kindly advise if there are any additional configurations required for Pixel devices on Android 15/16, or if this may be related to compatibility with our current institutional setup.

Regards,

Hi,

Since you include cat-users in this conversation; we're using Pixel phones with Android (I'm currently using the 16 beta myself) for the development of geteduroam, and there are no issues I'm aware of specifically on this type of phone for eduroam or geteduroam in general. We expect this to work, even without the help of the geteduroam App - but there may be institution specific configuration aspects that are incompatible: we would need to review.

From this conversation I don't understand what kind of issues you're facing. Pixels and Android 15 or 16 should just work.

FWIW; I did not find a LUAWMS profile on CAT, but PERN as your NRO is able to assist you with the onboarding for that.

Regards,
Paul

Dear Eduroam Support Team,

With reference to our earlier communication regarding connectivity issues on Google Pixel devices running Android 15, we would like to inform you that the problem still persists.

Additionally, after testing with the latest Android 16 update on Pixel devices, we have observed that the issue continues. Now, both our students and faculty members using Pixel devices on Android 15 and 16 are unable to connect to the Eduroam network, while other Android versions and devices remain unaffected.

As the issue has not been resolved even after subsequent updates, we kindly request your assistance in investigating this matter further and providing guidance on possible fixes or workarounds at the earliest.

We appreciate your continued support and look forward to your response.

Subject: Connectivity Issue with Eduroam on Google Pixel Devices and (Android version15)

Dear Eduroam Support Team

I am writing to bring to your attention an issue that students are encountering while attempting to connect to Eduroam using Google Pixel devices running Android version 15.

Despite following the standard connection procedures, these devices are unable to establish a connection to the Eduroam network. Notably, this issue seems to be specific to the combination of Google Pixel and Android 15, as other devices and Android versions are connecting without any problems.

Could you please investigate this matter and provide guidance on any potential fixes or updates to resolve the issue? Your prompt assistance in addressing this would be greatly appreciated and will help ensure seamless connectivity for our students.

Thank you for your attention and support.
