Dear Tomasz,

thanks for your reply.

Is there currently a way which doesn’t require a admin

Well, not really. We believe that this kind of user support should be in hands of people responsible for managing eduroam at their institution, and this is why these features are implemented in the admin area.

Sending a direct link (to an installer) isn’t really helpful (for me), since I don’t know the OS of the recipient.

Regarding the 2.2 update – will the updated version just provide (deep link) URLs by default, that would certainly be the easiest and

This will again be the admin area and these links are device-specific, since the profile-specific links are already available as I have explained.

The last question is about maintainability: Currently we have each user download the CAT tool and run it in their context / user session. That is certainly more complex then it needs to be.

Is there a way to run an CAT tool on a fresh installation, create a image from it and use the image on new machines. That way users getting a new machine won’t have to deal with CAT at all, they would just get a login box and go from there. The installer (CAT) would primary be responsible to install the required certificats.

It would also be possible to renew those certificates using a centralized software rollout.

If you have centralised management then probably you might not need CAT at all, except for user-owned devices where you probably would not have admin access. If you are talking Windows then you could also use the silent mode of the Windows installer.  You call the installer with the /S flag and it will install the certificates and the wireless profiles but not user credentials. The system will ask the user for credentials during the first login.

The silent mode of the installer is indeed completely silent if you point to certificates which are already installed on user's machine. If new root certificates are required then the installer will display a prompt window about that.

Tomasz

Hi,

there are three replies to this:

1. If you want to point your users to the CAT download page with institution and profile already selected then the admin institution overview page publishes links and QR codes for that. This will spare the users the step of selecting the institution and profile. The download page will show them contact details, possibly the additional download message if your profile has one and will do the auto-selection of the device type or let the user to select something else.

2. If you want a direct download link to the installer for this institution ans profile and device already set the currently the best way is just to go trough the download process and the copy the link shown on the download page as "In case of problems with the automatic download please use this direct link".

3. In CAT 2.2 which will be available in September the direct links will be available from the "Installer fine-tuning and download" page for each profile.

I do not understand the last question.

Hi all,

is there a way to link to a CAT installer of a specific institution / organization? That would be helpful…

If yes, please make sur it’s shown in the address bar when the organisation is selected

How does one use a installer to install certificated for all users?

Thanks,
