Hm, Android 4-7 do not get security updates any more, they should go away.
But a user located 5 km away from me recently successfully configured a 
not-so-new tablet
running Android 9 with eduroam CAT, still supported by the manufacturer.
It obviously had the old API up and intact. So the app should stay for a 
while, IMHO.
