Also our local experience here (RESTENA has a helpdesk for things beyond
eduroam like e-mail or VPN configuration, all with .mobileconfig files)
is that people seem to "get it".

I'm positively surprised; and concur with your conclusion that doing
nothing or just small text updates in the existing method is probably
enough.
