you're right. I let the Android fiddling confuse my mind, now it all works.

Given the fact that Windows does not care about the realm, but takes it
from user input instead, would it make sense to display a warning when
the realm is missing? There may always be local SSIDs where it's useless,
but a common eduroam configuration error on the user side is to try
at home -- but without the realm.
