Hi,

from the list of universities offered in the list, your location is
apparently guessed to be in Eastern London, close to London City Airport.

At least on the CAT website, our location services depend on either the
IP address (not necessarily exact) or the device's own location
(better). The browser will typically ask the user if it's okay to share
the location with the website; if that's denied, only IP addresses remain.

When you are on the mobile network, your IP addresses comes from the
cell phone provider. Their address blocks are typically allocated to
their HQ, and relying on those addresses makes you appear close to
those. Who knows, your operator might be based in East London...
Contrary to that, when you are on your university network in the office,
the IP will be local to the university and geolocation based on IP
address is much more precise.

But your screenshot is not about the CAT website, it's the Android app.
I know that it requests location access. Did you give the app the
corresponding permission? Does your device actually know its own
location reasonably well, e.g. by turning on GPS/Location Services? If
it does not, Android's own location guesses might be down to IP address
as well, leading the same low accuracy.

Sorry, not much more specific advice I can give. Since things work
on-campus, I can only speculate that the different IP range and
potential cluelessness of the mobile phone about its own location are
the source of this problem.

Greetings,

Stefan Winter
