XP is dead. Generic PC support stopped from microsoft - so no more security fixes, patches etc. It's joined 95/98/ME and the rest in the pile of obsolescence

I would strongly advise that anyone still running XP who have ignored the end of life messages of the past 3 years now seriously consider upgrading their hardware to something that can run Windows 10 (ignore 7, 8 or 8.1). Or just upgrade to win10 if hardware suitable.

That's if you need to keep with windows. Else now is the time to look at migrating to Linux or OSX as your desktop /research platform of choice.

Microsoft no longer support XP. Its incoherent and puzzling to wonder why any 3rd party software company would.
(And having and Internet connected XP system is asking for trouble security wise. If you have some random APP then consider converting your machine into a VM and run it as a virtual box on your new win10/OSX/linux desktop. You get to run the software app but the os is isolated from network)
