Hello,

with great please we can announce the next beta version of eduroam CAT!

Since we are advancing rapidly towards a stable release, the amount of
new features in this version is rather modest. Thanks to your rigorous
testing, we've found a number of bugs though and we are quite happy with
how the code performs at this point.

At the end of the mail you'll find the detailed Changelog between beta1
and beta2 - if you had previously reported a bug and the Changelog
claims we fixed it, you are cordially invited to verify that that is
actually the case :-)

The really noteworthy new *features* are:

* iOS profiles and the Linux installer can now display your Acceptable
Use Policy text (due to restrictions in iOS, only the first 1218
Bytes(!) are displayed in that installer). The AUP text must be uploaded
in plaintext for that to work. (I.e. we have discontinued the Rich Text
Format uploads)

* The Windows installers for PEAP now ask for and install user
credentials immediately during execution time (i.e. no need to wait for
the yellow bubble when coming into hotspot vicinity). We would like to
thank Gareth Ayres from Swansea University for that very much; he has
been doing this in his su1x installers since a long time and has let us
in on the secret on how to do that :-)

* more control for federation operators: they can now take control of an
institution without sending an email to themselves (new button added);
and they can revoke pending invitations if they change their mind about
the invitee (new button added). Invitees will then see an "already
expired" if they try to redeem the invitation token.

* Invitation emails explicitly state until when the token is valid. Some
invitees were confused when they came too late due to not realising that
there is a timeout at all.

CAT-1.0-beta2 is available in 15 languages - although not all of them
are at a 100% state right now; so you might experience a fallback to
English for untranslated phrases.

The URL for accessing the service is now https enabled (but using the
old http links still works, they will automatically redirect you):

https://cat-test.eduroam.org

The source tarball of the release will become available on the GEANT
Downloads portal later today (pending manual work from DANTE staff). You
will then find it at the usual place:

http://downloads.geant.net

then click on "Roaming" and then "eduroam CAT".

When it comes to future plans for eduroam CAT: we will probably do one
more beta release, which is probably limited to bugfixes only *and* a
re-design of the user entrance page (a little self-advertisement never
hurts if you want to "sell" a service). Then a release candidate,
followed by *drumroll* the first production release. If all goes well,
the final version will lie under your Christmas trees (for those of you
with a faith which includes celebrating Christmas, and who additionally
have opted to actually buy a Christmas tree, and to burn a physical CD
copy of the tarball in order to have something to put under the tree).

Greetings, and thanks for using eduroam CAT,

Stefan Winter and the CAT development team
