hi,
https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/draft-ietf-idr-bgp-autoconf-considerations
sums up the competing drafts in this field... as far as i know there are an
other
based on udp, and a 3rd based on icmp/nd... this later is available in junos
for
example:
https://www.juniper.net/documentation/us/en/software/junos/bgp/topics/ref/statement/peer-auto-discovery.html
on the other hand, cisco nexus switches do the udp method:
https://developer.cisco.com/docs/cisco-nexus-3000-and-9000-series-nx-api-rest-sdk-user-guide-and-api-reference/latest/#!configuring-a-bgp-neighbor-ethernet-interface-under-a-vrf/configuring-a-bgp-neighbor-ethernet-interface-under-a-vrf
so for now, the whole topic is on the todo list
https://github.com/rare-freertr/freeRtr/blob/master/todo.txt#L12 in
freerouter until the big ones agree on the topic...

Dear Csaba,

I'm a big fan of BGP autoconfiguration (have had good experience with
the Cumulus Linux variant, although apparently it doesn't interoperate
well with other implementations if I understand correctly).

I just noticed that there's a proposal to use LLDP to discover BGP
peers. The Internet-Draft must have been out for a while, because it's
already at version -14. So maybe you already know about it... otherwise
maybe it's an interesting Pokemon for freeRtr to catch? ;-)

Best regards,
