I feel like I’ve found a clue in my investigation.
I have learned that the geteduroam app uses the following URL to get the complete list of eduroam profiles for all organisations:
When I take a look at the profiles in this list, I can see that the list of configured profiles is outdated. And it looks like it has not been updated since Wednesday, since the last-modified time of the list is Wednesday 6th May 2026.
% curl -sSI --compressed 'https://discovery.eduroam.app/v3/discovery.json' | grep -iE 'last-modified|date|age|etag|cf-cache-status’
last-modified: Wed, 06 May 2026 09:08:50 GMT
date: Sat, 09 May 2026 04:04:54 GMT
cache-control: public, max-age=900, s-maxage=300, stale-while-revalidate=86400, stale-if-error=2592000

How often does this discovery list update? If I make a configuration update in our eduroam CAT organisation, it usually updates the geteduroam app within a couple of hours. To me, that seems like the discovery.json file should update relatively regularly. So
I wonder why the discovery file has not been updated for several days?
Is this something that GEANT needs to be made aware of? Who controls the discovery list? I couldn’t find that information on
https://wiki.geant.org .
If anyone has any insights to this, that
would be wonderful.

Hello, I am a devops engineer working for REANNZ.
I am trying to see if I can create an eduroam CAT profile that will redirect
users to an instance of the letswifi-portal service
(https://github.com/geteduroam/letswifi-portal#) that we have running, so that
we can have them connect to eduroam using a letswifi-created profile.
In the section 'Installer Download Location', I have entered the URL of our
server, 'https://reannz.get.eduroam.nz/#letswifi'. This is based on the
instructions at https://www.eduroam.app/idp/cat/ , which say to use the URL
followed by '#letswifi'.
However, when I test this profile on the geteduroam app for iOS I get the
error:
Failed to connect
The data couldn't be read because it is missing.
What data is considered missing?
We have two profiles for REANNZ. One for regular eduroam, which works, and one
that talks to the letswifi-portal, which shows the above error.
How do I know which part of my eduroam CAT profile is misconfigured?
