The agenda of the meeting will roughly be:

 

- Welcome and short presentation of attendees

- Review of the current REFEDS MFA profile and the tasks of the sub-group

- Agree on regular (most likely weekly) meetings

- Conclusion on method to work on the tasks

 

For the first meeting, we kindly ask you to block your calendar yourself.

For the subsequent meetings we will then send around calendar invites.

Betreff: [refeds] Call for Participants of a sub-group to the REFEDS Assurance Working Group to add guidance to the REFEDS MFA Profile

 

Dear REFEDS colleagues,

 

I’d kindly ask you to draw your attention to the following Call for Participants. In case you’re a federation operator, please also distribute this email to your members!

 

 

*What*: We need to make REFEDS MFA easier to understand and use

*Why*: Everything is not clear, and NIH MFA deadline is coming up

*How*: Getting a group of people together

The REFEDS Assurance Working Group, which is the body that updates the REFEDS Assurance Framework, the REFEDS Single Factor Authentication Profile, and the REFEDS Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) Profile, is forming a subgroup, called the MFA Subgroup, to enhance implementation guidance for the REFEDS MFA Profile. This call solicits participation in that subgroup.

 

This MFA Subgroup will consider a range of use cases that have been compiled for which enhanced guidance is expected to facilitate broader adoption of the REFEDS MFA Profile. Such guidance may take the form of best practice documentation, configuration examples,  implementation examples, or other enhanced documentation.

 

The MFA Subgroup is expected to produce initial guidance in a short time frame, aiming for the end of June 2021, focused on what its members deem to be the easiest and most important use cases to address. The MFA Subgroup may continue its work past that date to address further use cases and produce further guidance.

 

Because of this short time frame, the MFA Subgroup is expected to meet every week, at a time to be determined by doodle poll. Interested parties can respond to this poll immediately. Please also reply to the sender of this message to signal your interest in participating.

The MFA Subgroup will report all of its recommendations to the REFEDS Assurance WG, which will coordinate with subgroup members on getting the recommendations published in appropriate places, often within the REFEDS Assurance WG wiki site.

 

The MFA Subgroup will not modify the REFEDS MFA Profile but it may decide to recommend to the Assurance WG that specific modifications should be implemented.
