anybody can share any experience on the Azure Active Directory as an
IDP used to authenticate for SPs on eduGain, in particular inAcademia.

We see a lot of demand for this and facilitate it via our proxy that we run as SURFconext. Currently 35 of our IdPs (16%) is Azure AD. We expose the IdPs via our hub to eduGAIN. So this information is probably only of marginal interest if your federation is currently full-mesh and does not have a proxy facility.
