Perhaps we can just make the admin part unavailable for a while, while keeping the user download part on-line.

Hi Tomasz,

Just wondering whether it might be worth having a read-only replica of CAT that could be used for maintenance like this.

I understand it cannot be quickly stood up in time for this maintenance event - but while it's all fine to put the admin side of CAT off-line (no changes done over a time period), it might be beneficial to keep the user-facing part (downloading of profiles) going uninterrupted.

At the very least to avoid getting bad reputation for "CAT not working".

I run some of our services this way: where synchronising state would be too difficult and they are bound to a single master instance, there is a read-only replica to step in when the primary instance is under maintenance or otherwise unavailable.

Is this something that can be considered?

Cheers,
Vlad

Hi,

we are planning an update of the cat.eduroam.org site on Nov 2nd, between 10 and 11 UTC. Since this is a fairly big update including also the operating system, we will have to turn access off for some time to run some final tests.

I will send information about new features once we are done.

Yours
