Hi Raymond,

The easiest way to check is to remove all the certs (including the eduroam_* ones). AFAIK, HS2_* refers to Hotspot 2.0 (i.e. Openroaming), and eduroam CAT may include the Hotspot 2.0 RCOI (a special identifier that says "this is eduroam" for Openroaming networks). The old 'eduroam CAT' app didn't have this because Openroaming didn't really exist at the time the app was last updated.

I hope this helps.

Hello again,

When I tested the app at our campus I got it to work right away on my android which is great. However, I am not sure how its doing the certificate now in combination with our old/current CAT settings in the admin portal.

I see on my phone now a new user certificate for wifi called “HS2_54_0”. I believe before it was called “eduroam”_WPA….ect (see below images). Is it still using the certificates we put under the EAP Details for this profile, but just naming it differently now? Or is this a new certificate entirely issues from CAT on this new app?

Thank you.

Hi,

eduroamCAT has not been maintained for quite a while, and should only be used for older versions of Android.  The new geteduroam is far superior in many ways and also supports recent Android versions. It will install everything that eduroamCAT did.

The recommended way to use it is to install the app, use it to search for your institution and then input login data. It is also possible to preload the configuration file from CAT first, but this can be useful only in situations when during the installation there is no alternative network connectivity an the file has been already saved on the device.

Cheers

Hello,

Our university has been using the eduroam CAT app for Android devices since around 2021, but now when we are on your webpage https://cat.eduroam.org/ it will direct you to a newer one “geteduroam”. Which one are you guys recommending? The new one doent seem to have the status/debug portion on it. Also does the new “geteduroam” app allow you to install the certificate?

Thank you.
