It would seem that in principle iwd should be supported out of the box, since the ony thing that CAT does is interact with the NerworkManager Dbus API. It should be up to NM to talk to the back-end either wpa_supplicant or iwd. Creating config files for direct application is another story and there is already some preliminary fir that, however configuring things manually is probably a small margin.

It would be really helpful to get some testers against iwd to check if the theory is correct and if not try to localize issues. The USB adapters that I have for testing do not support the proper drivers to be able to do WPA2 with iwd, if someone could suggest something that works then it would be helpful.
