That does not change the reality that these permissions are useful and
requested because they help to provide a good user experience, as
explained in the README on GitHub:

I assume you are a user from a Germany university and are talking about
the exchange of the root Certification Authority which some universities
are facing, and which went into effect two days ago:

If your device was previously configured to correctly check the trust
root, then it will stop functioning without an update to the trust root.

If your device was previously incorrectly configured to ignore the
server-side security checks, then it may continue to work in the
extremely insecure manner it did before. In that case, you may want to
hope that there is no Man-In-The-Middle attacker that grabs your password.
