We have had another report about Kali Linux before with very similar
symptoms. My own tests did not show anything strange.

Which distro of Kali Linux are you using? Are you running a proper
install ir a live image? I have found that the light version of live
image has a very limited support for WiFi authentication this could be
an explanation.
