Hello,

it's been a while since we've released software version 1.0 and the big
news announcements about eduroam CAT went out, saying it will be online
"soon".

We've spent the time integrating the software into eduroam Operation
Team's infrastructure, which led to two small maintenance releases with
minor code changes.

As a result, I'm happy to announce that version 1.0.2 is now available
on the download servers [1] and that

eduroam CAT is now officially in production!

The URL for the production service instance is https://cat.eduroam.org

An IdP administrator manual for eduroam CAT can be found at
https://confluence.terena.org/x/fgBYAg

All institution data which was previously entered on
cat-test.eduroam.org has been migrated to the production instance; so
all your data is preserved.

We have disabled all profiles though (i.e. removed the
"Production-ready" attribute from all profiles). This is because we were
unsure how many of the created institutions and profiles on cat-test
were actually meant serious, vs. meant for testing purposes only.

You can easily re-enable your profiles by logging in as an admin,
editing the profile, and re-adding the attribute "Production-Ready". As
soon as that is done, your installers will appear on the end-user
download page again. If you have multiple profiles in your IdP you need
to re-enable each of them.

eduroam CAT is now available in 15 languages. If you are curious about
further changes between 1.0 and 1.0.2, please consult the Changes file
in the source download.

The cat-test.eduroam.org instance will continue to exist, but its main
purpose is to run unreleased code for the "next" version and to act as a
"sandbox" for administrators.
You should not use it anymore, unless expressly told to to test new code
and bug fixes. From now on, institution data entered on cat-test will
not be transferred to production any more.

A word on Microsoft Windows installers: the Microsoft tools
"SmartScreen" and "Internet Explorer 9+" have a very "interesting"
mechanism to determine whether a download is safe or harmful [2]. It
goes like this: if the signature certificate for a download has been
used "often" before, the download is probably not harmful. If the
certificate is "new", the download "may be harmful". Think of this
algorithm as you like :-). Various security packages for windows also
have their own algorithms. It may mean though that for the first few
days of operation, Windows users may get a spurious warning about a "not
commonly downloaded" program. We obviously can't change Microsoft's or
security vendors' thinking, so Windows installer downloads will be
slightly more inconvenient in the first days.

Apart from that, all installers have been thoroughly tested, and we are
confident that eduroam CAT will be a useful addition to eduroam
Operations from now on.

NB: this is the last release announcement which adds
mobility AT terena.org
and GN3-specific mailing lists as a recipient; people interested in
using and/or developing for eduroam CAT should subscribe to
cat-users AT geant.net
[3] and
cat-devel AT geant.net
[4], respectively.
Subscription is NOT restricted to GEANT personnel.

Greetings, and have a lot of fun with eduroam CAT!

Stefan Winter
